This spartan apartment in London's Mayfair area was designed to resemble a hotel suite and features a number of space-saving solutions. A solid block of marble makes for an elegant, minimalist coffee table, around which sits dark teak mid-century modern furniture. Norm Architects used some of Henningsen's lights, which the house's owner collects, in its design for the interior, and complimented them with modern pieces such as the JWDA table lamp by Menu. This house in Copenhagen was allegedly once the home of renowned Danish architect Poul Henningsen, who designed the iconic PH lamp. A Finn Juhl dining table and chairs have pride of place in the dining room, where they sit in front of a balcony with panoramic views of the surrounding nature.

Here, skilled craftsmen use age-old methods to build and repair boats, often replicating the very designs exhibited in the museum. The Louisiana Museum’s world-class art collection, stunning location, and visitor-friendly approach make it a must-visit destination on any trip to Copenhagen. The Hirschsprung Collection also houses a vast collection of works from the Skagen Painters, a group of artists like P. S. Krøyer and Anna and Michael Ancher who congregated in the northernmost part of Denmark in the late 19th century.

If you love architecture as much as Jacky and I do, you’ll have a blast at the DAC. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even go down the DAC’s unique 40-meter, 4-story spiral slide. N.B. The Zoological Museum is presently closed as the Natural History Museum is undergoing renovation.

IRMA - A Design Story

Two large black pendant lights, called Suspence and designed by Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi for furniture brand Fritz Hansen, hang above a relaxing living area. Two rice lamps by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon for Denmark's &tradition create a decorative focal point in the living room, where they are framed by the translucent curtains covering floor-to-ceiling windows. Danish brand Menu teamed up with studio Norm Architects to create The Audo, a hotel in Copenhagen's up-and-coming Nordhavn area.

Designmuseum Denmark

We are currently building the exhibition DANISH MODERN, which unfolds the history of Danish design from the 1920s to the year 2000 with a focus on the creation of some of the most iconic Danish design classics. Rooms have sprawling views across the city, given they’re positioned high in the sky, and the hotel underwent a renovation in 2018, so everything feels fresh and polished. There are a variety of room types, but the hotel’s crown jewel is the Panorama Suite, which is almost 550 square feet and resembles a retro airport lounge. For dining, there is a Peruvian Japanese restaurant, ISSEI Copenhagen, that is not to be missed, as well as a classic breakfast selection. It is conveniently located near key transport hubs, vibrant neighborhoods, and key attractions, including Tivoli.

Positioned within the historic walls of the Christian IV’s 17th-century arsenal, the Danish War Museum provides a compelling glimpse into the military history of Denmark. The museum documents over 500 years of Danish military history and explores how wars, conflicts, and military technologies have shaped Denmark and its people. Another captivating section of the museum is Thorvaldsen’s personal and extensive collection—everything from the Egyptian relics of Ptolemy to the contemporary sketches, and paintings he acquired during his lifetime. The museum exhibits over 900 of his sculptures and reliefs, ranging from intimate portraits to grand mythological pieces. You can trace Thorvaldsen’s artistic journey, starting from his early works to his late masterpieces, showcasing the evolution of his style and craftsmanship. The Winter Garden, with its towering palm trees, glass dome, and central fountain, offers a tranquil spot to pause and reflect on the artistic grandeur you’ve witnessed.

Review: Designmuseum Danmark

Room sizes vary from singles at 150 square feet to junior suites at 270 square feet, and the larger rooms include a sitting area and bathtubs. Overall, it’s an excellent option for individuals, couples, and business travelers heading to Copenhagen. Pieces by Danish mid-century modern designers, like Finn Juhl, are mixed with newer designs from brands such as &tradition and Skagerak to create interiors that blend the classic with the contemporary. Historic stores offering products with a timeless aesthetic, showrooms of world-leading furniture brands, and small boutiques of up-and-coming designers are the highlights of any shopping trip in Copenhagen.

Additionally, the royal suits of armor are almost works of art unto themselves. Jason with the Golden Fleece is considered to be the artist’s first great masterpiece and remains for me the highlight of the museum. Wearing only his warrior’s helmet, the marble statue shows Jason’s proud nonchalance as he sets off to return home with the Golden Fleece on his left arm. If you enjoy design and are interested in learning why Danish design continues to captivate, a visit to the Design Museum is a must when in Copenhagen. These masterpieces, demonstrating Rodin’s incredible ability to capture raw human emotion in bronze and marble, are must-sees for any visitor. Designmuseum Danmark was originally the first public hospital in Denmark; The Royal Frederik's Hospital, where Søren Kierkegaard was admitted and died in 1855.

DANISH DESIGN NOW shows off the diversity of new designers and craftsmen and of style trends, lifestyle choices and technological innovation. To protect our collections, you are not allowed to bring your own baby carriages, prams, strollers, or pushchairs into the exhibition areas. ‘IN THE MAKING’ invites guests to explore the processes of the design objects of our everyday life, in a colorful and fun universe of materials, models, sketches, prototypes and finished designs. You can even become a designer for the day and create your very own digital everyday design. Images of heroic warriors in battle and beautiful young people can be experienced in the exhibition 'In Love and War' at Designmuseum Danmark.

Danish design, a style characterized by its simplicity, excellent craftsmanship, and focus on function, has become known around the world for its seamless blend of tradition with contemporary aesthetics. Copenhagen is a must-visit destination for all those interested in Scandinavian design and ... The museum opened in 1897 and is spread across 86 acres in the scenic countryside just north of Copenhagen making it one of the largest and oldest open-air museums in the world.

On the coast north of Copenhagen, the museum boasts photo-worthy views across the Øresund towards Sweden. Its delightful sculpture park, featuring works by Alexander Calder and Richard Serra, is unforgettable. I walked away with a handful of gifts for friends and a piece for myself (599kr). We went to Mads Nørgaard, a Copenhagen brand that makes iconic striped shirts that are so comfy. I bought the pink-on-pink, striped long-sleeve, which I would end up wearing the very next day (299kr). From there, we browsed a few vintage shops, but the real winner was O-S-V Second Hand, where I got a very chic, brown boatneck top sprinkled with polka dots and a white midi length skirt (599kr for both). In 2004, the hit movie “Sideways,” about a wine-tasting trip gone wacko, jump-started the transformation of Santa Ynez Valley into Southern California’s favorite wine-country destination. Restless Angelenos couldn’t get on a plane, but in a couple of hours they could drive to more than 150 wineries and countless restaurants, boutiques, hotels and Airbnbs spread among Santa Ynez Valley’s rolling hills.

Jensen, who envisioned a place where art, nature, and architecture come together in perfect harmony. The Danish Jewish Museum particularly highlights the rescue of Danish Jews during the Holocaust, a remarkable event in which over 7,000 Danish Jews were helped to escape to Sweden, thereby saving them from Nazi persecution.
