This spartan apartment in London's Mayfair area was designed to resemble a hotel suite and features a number of space-saving solutions. A solid block of marble makes for an elegant, minimalist coffee table, around which sits dark teak mid-century modern furniture. Norm Architects used some of Henningsen's lights, which the house's owner collects, in its design for the interior, and complimented them with modern pieces such as the JWDA table lamp by Menu. This house in Copenhagen was allegedly once the home of renowned Danish architect Poul Henningsen, who designed the iconic PH lamp. A Finn Juhl dining table and chairs have pride of place in the dining room, where they sit in front of a balcony with panoramic views of the surrounding nature.
Architect-designed furniture
Here, skilled craftsmen use age-old methods to build and repair boats, often replicating the very designs exhibited in the museum. The Louisiana Museum’s world-class art collection, stunning location, and visitor-friendly approach make it a must-visit destination on any trip to Copenhagen. The Hirschsprung Collection also houses a vast collection of works from the Skagen Painters, a group of artists like P. S. Krøyer and Anna and Michael Ancher who congregated in the northernmost part of Denmark in the late 19th century.

IRMA - A Design Story
Two large black pendant lights, called Suspence and designed by Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi for furniture brand Fritz Hansen, hang above a relaxing living area. Two rice lamps by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon for Denmark's &tradition create a decorative focal point in the living room, where they are framed by the translucent curtains covering floor-to-ceiling windows. Danish brand Menu teamed up with studio Norm Architects to create The Audo, a hotel in Copenhagen's up-and-coming Nordhavn area.

We are currently building the exhibition DANISH MODERN, which unfolds the history of Danish design from the 1920s to the year 2000 with a focus on the creation of some of the most iconic Danish design classics. Rooms have sprawling views across the city, given they’re positioned high in the sky, and the hotel underwent a renovation in 2018, so everything feels fresh and polished. There are a variety of room types, but the hotel’s crown jewel is the Panorama Suite, which is almost 550 square feet and resembles a retro airport lounge. For dining, there is a Peruvian Japanese restaurant, ISSEI Copenhagen, that is not to be missed, as well as a classic breakfast selection. It is conveniently located near key transport hubs, vibrant neighborhoods, and key attractions, including Tivoli.

Room sizes vary from singles at 150 square feet to junior suites at 270 square feet, and the larger rooms include a sitting area and bathtubs. Overall, it’s an excellent option for individuals, couples, and business travelers heading to Copenhagen. Pieces by Danish mid-century modern designers, like Finn Juhl, are mixed with newer designs from brands such as &tradition and Skagerak to create interiors that blend the classic with the contemporary. Historic stores offering products with a timeless aesthetic, showrooms of world-leading furniture brands, and small boutiques of up-and-coming designers are the highlights of any shopping trip in Copenhagen.
Additionally, the royal suits of armor are almost works of art unto themselves. Jason with the Golden Fleece is considered to be the artist’s first great masterpiece and remains for me the highlight of the museum. Wearing only his warrior’s helmet, the marble statue shows Jason’s proud nonchalance as he sets off to return home with the Golden Fleece on his left arm. If you enjoy design and are interested in learning why Danish design continues to captivate, a visit to the Design Museum is a must when in Copenhagen. These masterpieces, demonstrating Rodin’s incredible ability to capture raw human emotion in bronze and marble, are must-sees for any visitor. Designmuseum Danmark was originally the first public hospital in Denmark; The Royal Frederik's Hospital, where Søren Kierkegaard was admitted and died in 1855.
